OBSSR Funding Policies and Considerations

Visit NIH Fiscal Policies for NIH-wide information on appropriations and other budgetary information (salary limits, stipends, tuition/fees) and Funding Decisions to learn about NIH's consistent and unified approach for making funding decisions. The OBSSR-specific information on this page builds on that general information.

The Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) supports the scientific activities of the NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices (ICOs) through its co-funding program. Co-funding requests are submitted to OBSSR by ICO program staff though a formal process.

OBSSR considers various factors in its co-funding decisions, including the impact of the proposed research (as reflected in the summary statement), relevance to the OBSSR mission and strategic plan, commitment by the requesting IC to support the research, and the availability of funds.
