Looking for Animal Welfare Content? OLAW has moved to NIH Grants and Funding!

Information and other web resources from the NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) have recently migrated to the NIH Grants and Funding hub, which serves as the central location for navigating information on NIH’s grants policies, programs, and funding activities. NIH is modernizing its digital presence to make sure information is clear, readily accessible, and to offer both general and appropriate NIH Institute, Center, and Office-specific information in one place. This effort also follows similar steps migrating content related to research trainingloan repaymentscientific data sharingpublic access, and the NIH Extramural Nexus from their own stand-alone sites.

You can now find OLAW’s information on the NIH Grants and Funding hub by:

To make things easier, attempts at navigating to the old address will automatically redirect to the new website for a short transition period, but be sure to update your bookmarks going forward.

Navigating the site will feel slightly different, but you can find what you need by using the left side of the main Animal Welfare (OLAW) page. That area includes a list of the main sections so you can navigate easily. The overall layout of the website is similar, but we have introduced some structural and content rearrangements to keep the website function robust and to focus on up-to-date resources.

While much of the site content remains the same, here are some notable changes:

  • Fewer PDFs in the OLAW articles and publications section to improve site performance
  • A link to the Lab Animal archive has now been included for access to past issues of the “Protocol Review” column and OLAW’s responses, available on the Animal Welfare Training and Education page. A short bibliography of other publications by OLAW is also provided. These may be found on the Animal Welfare Training and Education page.
  • A focus on more recent, relevant webinars, which you can find on the Calendar of Events page filtered by the Animal Welfare topic
  • Reorganization of sections to fall into the following categories:
    • Laws and regulations
    • Welfare and compliance topics (which include sections on alternatives and novel approach methodologies, cephalopods in research, institutional collaborations, disaster preparedness, frequently referenced OLAW Guide Notices, and more)
    • Sections reflecting the scope of each of the OLAW main divisions
