Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to modify the research career objectives and eligibility criteria of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) FOA, PAR-10-195. The research career objectives will now include supporting those establishing their first independent research programs in clinical informatics, public health informatics, bioinformatics or translational informatics. The eligibility criteria will now include clinical and research doctorates.

Research Career Objectives

Currently under Section I Funding Opportunity Description, 1, Research Career Objectives, the 2nd paragraph states:

The NLM Independent Career Development Award for Biomedical Informatics has been developed to provide support to promising informatics investigators while they are establishing their first independent research programs in clinical informatics, public health informatics or translational informatics.  This award is available only to individuals with health professional degrees (see Section III.1.B. Eligible Individuals).

The above paragraph in the FOA will be replaced with the following language:

The NLM Independent Career Development Award for Biomedical Informatics has been developed to provide support to promising informatics investigators while they are establishing their first independent research programs in clinical informatics, public health informatics, bioinformatics or translational informatics (see Section III.1.B. Eligible Individuals).

Eligibility

Currently under Section III. Eligibility Information. 1.B. Eligible Individuals,

Degree and Research: Candidates must have earned a terminal health professional doctorate (including Ph.D. (in a clinical discipline), M.D., D.O., D.C., N.D., D.D.S., D.V.M., Sc.D., D.N.S., Pharm.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or a combined health professional and research doctoral degree. Candidates must have formal training in biomedical informatics.

The above paragraph in the FOA will be replaced with the following language:

Degree and Research: Candidates must have earned a clinical or research doctorate (including Ph.D., M.D., D.O., D.C., N.D., D.D.S., D.M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D., D.N.S., Pharm.D. or equivalent doctoral degrees). Candidates must have formal training in biomedical informatics.

All other aspects of the FOA remain unchanged.
