Purpose

The NHLBI Progenitor Cell Biology Consortium (PCBC) seeks to develop an improved understanding of the biology of stem and progenitor cells and to harness this knowledge for the diagnosis and treatment of heart, lung, and blood diseases. The PCBC consists of multiple clusters, each forming a virtual Research Hub. In addition to interactions within Research Hubs, there is extensive collaboration between Hubs. The PCBC is supported by an Administrative Coordinating Center (ACC) to provide logistical support to the PCBC activities. The ACC is responsible for solicitation of applications for cores and oversees the peer review and award of subcontracts under the guidance of an External Advisory Committee and NHLBI staff.

The NHLBI is making funds available for ancillary and collaborative projects to foster interactions between research hubs and to bring in expertise from outside the NHLBI PCBC to move supported projects in new directions. Applications that promote the translation of PCBC findings towards pre-clinical and clinical application are particularly encouraged.

The PCBC is accepting applications for Ancillary and Collaborative Studies 2014 now. Proposals must be submitted by close of business (5:00 p.m., EDT) on Thursday, May 15, 2014.
