NCCAM Eligibility Guidelines for K23 Candidates with PhD Degrees

Purpose

This Notice is to inform applicants that the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) is clarifying the eligibility guidelines for investigators with PhD degrees who wish to submit an application to NCCAM in response to the Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-09-043.html). Individuals holding the PhD degree in a non-clinical discipline, but who are licensed to perform clinical duties in a complementary/alternative medicine (CAM) profession, are eligible to submit a K23 application if they hold an active state license in that CAM profession and the PhD degree is relevant to the proposed clinical study. Examples of such CAM professions include, but are not limited to, massage therapy (LMT) and acupuncture (LAc).
