Electronic Submission Alert

Organizations that submitted SBIR/STTR applications to Grants.gov on or before December 8, 2005 that have not yet been able to resolve NIH validation errors should continue to work with NIH to complete the submission process by December 22. We apologize for any difficulties you may be experiencing getting through to the eRA Helpdesk phone support team. We encourage you to review information on common errors and resolutions at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/ElectronicReceipt/avoiding_errors.htm and take advantage of e-mail support at commons@od.nih.gov. When requesting support please provide your PI Commons user name and contact information, Grants.gov tracking number and your specific questions. Changed/corrected applications should include a cover letter with explanation. Note that due to a scheduled release of system enhancements, Grants.gov will be down and not accepting applications from 5 PM EST on December 16, 2005 to 8 AM EST, Monday, December 19, 2005.

NIH offers SBIR Niche Assessment Program to Phase I Awardees

October 5, 2005
NIH announces the availability of an SBIR Niche Assessment Program for Phase I SBIR awardees in FY 2005 and FY 2006. NIH has contracted with Foresight Science and Technology to perform Technology Niche Analyses (TNA™) for 150 NIH SBIR Phase I awardees. The TNA™ will assess potential uses of the technology and result in a report that addresses the end-user needs, current and emerging competing technologies, the market dynamics, and the technology’s competitive advantage. (NOTE: This program is not available to STTR awardees.) NIH offers Commercialization Assistance Program (CAP) for its Phase II SBIR Awardees

NIH announces the availability of a Commercialization Assistance Program (CAP) for its 2000 through 2005 SBIR Phase II awardees. This program was previously limited to only current Phase II SBIR awardees and the pool of eligible grantees is now expanded to include any SBIR Phase II company who has received a Phase II award since January 1, 2000, to present. (NOTE: This program is not available to STTR awardees.) Attention NIH SBIR/STTR Grant Applicants: Register on Grants.gov and NIH eRA Commons Now!

NIH SBIR/STTR grant applicants will soon be expected to submit applications online to the NIH through the government-wide Grants.gov portal. Grant applicants must first complete a registration process. Organizations are strongly encouraged to register with Grants.gov now to ensure that they are ready to take advantage of the electronic submission process, which is expected to take effect for the December 1, 2005, submission date. Check this website and the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts for updates.

Submission Process
1) Grants.gov: To submit grant applications electronically, applicants must first complete a registration process with Grants.gov. Go to: http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/applicants/apply-for-grants.html and follow the steps for mandatory registration with the Central Contractor Registry (CCR) and Grants.gov. Start now to avoid potential delays in electronic submission! It can take several weeks for the registration process to be completed by Grants.gov.
2) eRA Commons: If not already registered, NIH grant applicants must also complete a one-time registration in the NIH eRA Commons

REMINDER: Poster Abstracts for 7th Annual NIH SBIR/STTR Conference Due May 27th

The deadline for submission of an abstract for consideration for the poster session at the 7th Annual NIH SBIR/STTR Conference is May 27th. Any SBIR or STTR Phase II awardee is eligible to submit. Changes Made to SBIR/STTR Omnibus Solicitation to Incorporate Recent PHS 398 Edits

Changes have been made to the NIH, CDC, and FDA Omnibus Solicitation for SBIR/STTR to incorporate the recent PHS 398 edits reflecting the recent changes in Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP) requirements for protection of human subjects participating in research conducted or supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
